Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Peel, core, and thinly slice the Granny Smith apples.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in flour until fragrant (about 1-2 minutes). Add both sugars and water; bring to a boil then simmer to create a sweet sauce.
  3. Press one pastry into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan and roll out the second pastry for the lattice top.
  4. Fill the bottom crust with sliced apples and arrange four strips of pastry on top for a lattice design.
  5. Pour the sweet sauce over the lattice and bake for 15 minutes at high heat before reducing to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for an additional 35-45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
