  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for topping
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg; then combine with dry ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Spoon the dough into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder and parsley while warm.
  8. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to slice.
