  • ⅔ cup vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup buttermilk (homemade)

  • Salted caramel sauce (homemade)
  • Dark chocolate (for frosting)
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp instant coffee
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream, warmed up
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temp
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup salted caramel sauce from above
  • 1 cup heavy cream, cold

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugars, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, oil, buttermilk, sour cream, cocoa powder, instant coffee, and boiling water until smooth. Combine with dry ingredients.
  4. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the salted caramel sauce and let it cool.
  6. For frosting, melt dark chocolate and combine with beaten cream cheese and powdered sugar.
  7. Once cakes are cooled, layer them with salted caramel sauce and frosting before topping with whipped cream.
