  • 1 pound packaged or homemade gnocchi
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon chopped garlic
  • 3/4 cup full-fat milk
  • 1 teaspoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup grated gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated fontina cheese
  • Salt to taste
  • White pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • Optional: basil leaves for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Boil salted water in a pot and cook the gnocchi until they float, then drain.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and sauté garlic for about a minute. Stir in flour to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth; add dijon mustard and cook until slightly thickened.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in gruyère, fontina, salt, white pepper, and half of the parmesan until melted.
  5. Combine cooked gnocchi with cheese sauce and transfer mixture into a greased baking dish. Top with remaining parmesan.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.
